The whitewater kayaks are short, light, comfortable kayaks made almost exclusively with the Rotation process. They turn extremely easily around the x and h axis, in Hungarian they are very easy to Eskimo (Eskimo turn, tumble turn is the basis of whitewater knowledge on serious rivers), and they are very manoeuvrable. Their steering on flat water is weak. The shorter whitewater kayaks are between 2-3 meters and weigh 19-21 kg.
The longer ones are 3-3.9 meters long. Of these, the ones that have a rear luggage storage compartment are the Crossovers - flatwater/whitewater Hybrid kayaks.
They already have direction. Let's clarify something: there are no wild waters in Hungary. The Hernád, the top of the Rába, and some branches of the Mosoni Danube sometimes produce seasonal whitewaters, but more so when the water is low.
However, all neighboring countries have whitewater, whitewater kayakers mainly go to Austria, Slovenia, and Slovakia. At home, Hungary prefers the 3-4 meter Crossover whitewater kayaks have a right to exist, because they are both touring kayaks and flatwater kayaks, and they perform well in slower waters as well.
Still, many people buy small whitewater kayaks for Lake Balaton because they are light, easy to transport, and can fit in the trunk. I brought them our Pelican Argo 80 Canadian kayak as a wiser and cheaper choice.
