The best 5 meter Chinese kayak. Shortly after the bank failure of the originally Canadian Riot in 2009, Boreal also went bankrupt in Canada.
The two companies were bought by the same Chinese company, who unfortunately dismantled both factories and shipped the tools to Shanghai.
Since then, the models of the two brands have often been confused, and the raw materials have been replaced with Chinese recycled materials.
Thus, the boat originally known as the Boreal Inokshuk is also available as the Riot 17, or the smaller Boreal Sedna is also marketed as the Riot 16.
The dimensions of the ship are good, the originally Canadian design made good proportions. Thigh height and leg room are enough for most people.
A stable, well-directed kayak with a rudder. The compartments are old-fashioned, as the ship was designed around 2000, but they are large enough, easy to pack, and close reasonably well. 3. There is no daily compartment.
The ship is easy to maneuver compared to its width. If it is used by a routine person, it is very maneuverable when sharpened very strongly, if this is not done, it can be rotated slowly.
It remains stable in strong swells and cuts large waves well.
The rear deck is too high (the prize is a huge rear cargo space), but because of this the kayak is relatively sensitive to side winds.
Unfortunately, the original high-quality Boreal metal rudder was replaced by the Shanghai manufacturer with an injection-molded plastic toy made of vinyl plastic suitable for the joke category, so the kayak starts to become unmanageable at 15 miles of crosswind. It is therefore worth spending HUF 35-40,000 on it
buy an authentic metal steering wheel. The kayak deserves it.
Molded steering wings can break at any time anyway. The Chinese have also replaced the steering column holder: the steering column attachment, which was originally turned from nylon, is now inexplicably made of dry ABS plastic, which cracks easily. If there is a problem with it, we can replace it with a metal one for HUF 10,000.
When the boat was designed in 2000, it was considered fast, today's boat designs are very different and have improved a lot, so now we can talk about a good medium speed 5 meter boat.
It is definitely a boat for long tours, the seat is well done, it is easy to handle in domestic waters, and by changing the rudder it is also good for sea tours.
We have to swallow the fact that the outstanding quality UV-resistant Canadian plastic was replaced by the Chinese, drier, reused plastic by the Shanghai manufacturer.
Thus, instead of the previous 27 kg boat, we have to lift 31-32 kg.
Furthermore, the UV-resistant service life is only 15 years, not 25 years.
But compared to any other kayak from China, it is toweringly the best put together model.
